The Artists for HUM Ensemble concert this year:
Josep Vicent is a fabulous drummer and is the artistic director and the principal conductor of The World Orchestra. Over the past 30 years 2500 musicians from 50 countries have been members of the orchestra and have performed their music in th best halls in the world, taking part in big events like Olympic Games or diplomatic celebrations, as the anniversary of the foundation of the State of Israel or concerts on both sides of the Berlin Wall. The orchestra has been under the direction of maestros like Zubin Mehta, Leonard Bernstein, Charles Dutoit, Yakov Kreizberg and Kurt Masur.
Anxo Pintos is a versatile musician and a star at playing the Hurdy Gurd. The hurdy gurdy is a stringed musical instrument that produces sound by a crank-turned rosined wheel rubbing against the strings. The wheel functions much like a violin bow, and single notes played on the instrument sound similar to a violin.
Matt Herskowitz – an amazing pianist about whom the legendary Miles Davis opined, ‘You have transformed the concept of “world” music as I conceived of it half a century ago. You have carried it further than I could imagine back then’.Matt has been described as a ‘poet at the keyboard’
Cristina Pato, the first female Galician bagpiper to record a solo album in Spain, she has given more than 500 concerts in Spain, Portugal, USA, France, Italy,Germany, Mexico, China, Korea, Angola, Arab Emirates and of course for HUM in India during the last two years.

Debu Chudhury, Dr. L Subramaniam and Ustad Shujaat Khan, among many others. In 1991, on his first trip outside India, Das performed with steel drum bands in Trinidad. In 2001 he performed a work composed by Kayhan Kalhor with the New York Philharmonic under the direction of Kurt Masur. His own compositions have combined the two genres and have received rave reviews. “Tarang” was chosen as the theme music for a “Blind Sight,” a documentary about the first Everest climb by six blind climbers, and his piece “Mohini” became theme music for the Japanese TV channel NHK’s 10-episode documentary on the Silk Road.
